ASID Accelerate Studio: Charlotte
Join ASID and me for Accelerate Studio, a full day of accelerated learning created to help members expand their design knowledge and learn new strategies for their businesses.
Accelerate Studio is presented by me and will focus on "Design Entrepreneurship: The Cycle of Success". Created with residential designers and small business owners in mind, this targeted workshop will feature six Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC) approved sessions that will focus on topics to help interior designers build successful, sustainable businesses. Attendees can participate in all six sessions or choose sessions a la carte.
This course flows in a cyclical fashion that prepares practicing professionals of interior design, architecture or any creative discipline with strategies to meet the business challenges of today’s changing economy for professional services. The integrated format presents a systematic approach to building, improving, and even excelling in the basics of any design business, and then offers encouragement to return to the beginning for another loop around the “cycle of success.”
Each individual session qualifies for 0.1 CEU credits. Attendees of the full day workshop will receive 0.6 CEU credits upon completion.
Since opening her interior design firm in 2009, Dana Hudiak’s company has grown rapidly. With the volume of work coming in faster, Hudiak wants to obtain the business acumen needed to better run her business and serve her customers.
“Mine is a small company, and I need to learn how to get to the next level,” said Hudiak, owner and principal designer of Dalucci Design Co. LLC in Philadelphia.
Hudiak was one of more than 30 industry professionals who attended Philadelphia University’s daylong seminar on interior design entrepreneurship May 28 in the DEC Center.
PhilaU’s College of Architecture and the Built Environment and School of Continuing and Professional Studies and the local chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers offered the seminar, Design Entrepreneurship: Money and Mojo Matter, to provide designers with the business savvy and tools to realize the fullest potential of their businesses. Participants gained continuing education units needed to maintain licensure.
“We are educating designers and architects as entrepreneurs and leaders in the profession,” said Barbara Klinkhammer, executive dean of the College of Architecture and Built Environment.
The seminar was taught by industry leaders Steve Nobel and Alan M. Siegel. Nobel, a fellow at PhilaU, manages his consulting firm, NOBELINKS, and is the author of “The Touch Points of Interior Design.” Siegel, an attorney, serves as legal counsel to the American Society of Interior Designers and as general counsel for the Decorative Furnishings Association. He is the co-author of “A Guide to Business Principles and Practices for Interior Designers.”
Maryellen Woltman, PhilaU’s director of continuing professional education, said, “Entrepreneurship is a natural partner of the active, real-world education taught at Philadelphia University. Helping industry professionals continue to achieve, retain and strengthen professional competencies is an important part of the lifelong learning experience.”

About ASID
The American Society of Interior Designers believes that design transforms lives. ASID serves the full range of the interior design profession and practice through the Society’s programs, networks and advocacy. We thrive on the strength of cross-functional and interdisciplinary relationships among designers of all specialties, including workplace, healthcare, retail and hospitality, education, institutional and residential. We lead interior designers in shared conversations around topics that matter: from
evidenced-based and human-centric design to social responsibility, well-being and sustainability. We showcase the impact of design on the human experience and the value interior designers provide.
ASID was founded nearly 40 years ago when two organizations became one — an anniversary we will recognize in 2015 — but its legacy dates back to the early 1930s. As we celebrate nearly 85 years of industry leadership, we are poised to lead the future of interior design, continuing to integrate the advantages of local connections with national reach, of small firms with big and of the places we live with the places we work, play and heal.
Join us on Thursday, March 27, in Los Angeles, for an exclusive ASID Accelerate Studio event. Taught by Steve Nobel of Nobelinks, this targeted workshop will feature six sessions on business strategies. Created with residential designers and small business owners in mind, each session will focus on topics to help interior designers build successful, sustainable businesses. Attendees can participate in all six sessions or choose sessions a la carte. More information on session and registration will be available soon.
The ASID Accelerate Studio is a new national program created to help members expand their design knowledge and learn new strategies for their businesses via a full day of accelerated learning, which members also can attend in segments, according to their needs. The program will feature dynamic workshops and demonstrations by leading design professionals. Members who attend the day-long program of Interior Design Continuing Education Council-approved sessions will earn 0.6 CEU (six contact hours).
Each studio session will serve 50 people, encouraging participation and time for questions. Two two-hour breaks will give members ample opportunity for refreshments, networking and work matters between morning, afternoon and late-afternoon sessions.
Steve connects people with ideas to advance the interior design profession.
